This is how you make a
NUTRITIOUS, EASY & HEALTHY BREAKFAST
We, Jodie & Anna love breakfast. It kick starts your metabolism, stops you snacking on unhealthy mid-morning treats and gives us a chance to have a good chat! And for our guests at our surf and yoga retreats, a healthy, filling and nutritious breakfast is essential.
With so many options around, what should we be eating?
As with every meal, a good mix of food groups will set you up for the day. Aim for foods that will fill you up for longer (low GI) and high in antioxidents to help you body get into gear. Here are our are the recipes to our 2 favorite brekkies:
Easy, healthy and yummy. THE overnight oats:
Benefits: oats are full of antioxidants, and beta-glucan fiber, which lowers cholesterol and helps you stay fuller for longer. Chia seeds have more Omega 3 in them than salmon, and cinnamon is chock full of antioxidants (highly potent polyphenal antioxidants, since you asked), anti-inflammatories and helps regulate insulin.
1 Add almond and coconut milks to oats, followed by chopped up dates, apples and figs.
2 Add flax and/or chia seeds
3 Sprinkle cinnamon in and mix it all up. Cover and refrigerate overnight, and add any nuts, seeds and fruit in the morning for garnish.
4 Bring it to room temperature before serving. Try not to eat it all at once.
TIP: put some almond milk, pure cacao and figs in the blender. Blend until it's smooth and gently pour on top of the oats.
Healthy and a little piece of art. The smoothie bowls!
Benefits: All fruit and veg have different properties, but you'll be getting a huge dose of vitamins C, K, and A, potassium with the banana, healthy fats with nuts and seeds a toppings, and good fiber from stoned fruits. It's up to you how you make yours, be creative!
That's what we love most about making smoothie bowls, using all the fruits, seeds, nuts colors and flavors that you like!
1 Put fresh and frozen fruits into the the blender with banana and blend until the scripture is smooth.
TIP: Use banana! Banana makes doesn't only give a sweet taste to the smoothie bowl but is also essential for the smooth structure and thickness.
TIP: when you mix frozen fruits with fresh fruits you give a delicious sorbet structure to the smoothie. Always check the box if the fruits are not sweetened.
2 Cut preferred fruits into slices
3 Garnish the bowl with favorite fruits, nuts and seeds!
Voila! That was easy, wasn't it?
We hope you will enjoy plenty good brekkies!
